Feeling happy today!! The reason for this short happiness is, my blog is showing up top 7 in google search hits. I actually used "Naveen Reddy HN" as keyword. I remember giving the same try some time back. It was on 3rd or 4th page(top 50), it has now come to 1st page!!!!
I wish it moves further up to top 1!!!! :)

Shames and scams
Year 2010, what an year it has been so far. Just one and a half months to go for another year to come. It has been raining scams all over India. Starting from state government to central government, everyone, absolutely everyone seems to be in one or the other. Initially it was just Yeddy's effort to keep his government afloat all the time, and then came CWG(Common Wealth Games) scam, and then land scams in Karnataka and now its 2G spectrum scam. Just look at the scale of all these scams. Politicians seem to have lost fear of getting punished for all what they have done. They don't care about anything for that matter. Anyways its bumper offer for opposition parties and news channels/media.
In future I guess politicians will be in a race to grab record for holding largest scams ever award. No wonder these guys are shameless and do any thing for money. Oh man, what is this guy Raja upto, he has ignored everybodies recommendation. And the funny reasons being given by every scammer truely points out these guys are not fit for their position. God save India.

Weather in Bangalore
Weather in Bangalore is soo cool, one can't predict it in anyway. One moment its drizzling and the other moment its pouring, and some other times its sunny all of a sudden. Its awesome, except for the people who travel by two wheelers. Its totally annoying. Consider yourself stepping out of home wearing clean, ironed shirts and by the time you reach office you can't even make out if its yours :). How magical this transformation can be. Kudos to everything around, by everything i mean everything including BBMP, road conditions, road widening, traffic jams, driving style etcetera!! I wish this changes in future. Thats it for now.

Trek to Antaragange
Its been almost three months now and I hadn't gone out for trekking. I clearly had couple of conditions in my mind before planning for the next one. Its got to be a short one, and should be a accessible ride. After searching for some time, I decided to go with Antaragange, located very near to Kolar, about 65km from Bangalore(NH 4), and also very near to the highway. I started inviting couple of colleagues and friends. Most of them said "Yeah!". But when the scheduled day came, couple of them backed off due to work. Finally, four of us left. We decided to leave early by 6 or 6:30am as these days its fuming hot outside in the afternoon.
As planned I started from home early by 6:30, picked up Nikhil at ISRO, Outer ring road. Next we headed towards my office at KR puram and picked up other two friends Jaipal and Ajay. Even though we had to wait for couple of minutes, we were able to start the journey by 8:30am. As we travelled every one came to know about Ajay's secret engagement at his native place. Every one was trying to pull his leg and tease. The next stop was for our breakfast and I had read in one of the blogs that they had it in Kamath hotel, so my plan was to stop at Kamath. But thanks to Jaipal and later Ajay's uncontrollable hunger, we had to pull over even before reaching Kamath. Another reason I had to pull over is due to the road widening we were taking frequent diversions and travelling in a zig zag manner. So everyone had doubt if we had already crossed over Kamat and heading towards our destination. After having not so great breakfast at Vijaya wada mess we decided not to take parcel from here for our lunch. We started again and within a kilometer Kamat popped up, with this followed a short blame game. We pulled over again for getting parcel lunch(idly).
Once getting the parcel done we hit the road again, from here onwards we were more cautious on taking any turns and frequently asking people about the route. We came to know from one of the local person that we had to take left after reaching Pallavi theatre and then again a left at next bus stop circle. We got this piece of information confirmed by other people that we asked. And then we managed to locate Anataragange road, which leads to the foot hill.
On the way we took some snaps, as we knew that next was the final stop.

By the time we reached foot hill it was already 10am. Without wasting more time we started our trek.

The steps that are seen in the picture lead to the temple.

Once we surpass the temple this kind of steps are not to be seen any more, but then there are steps like carvings on rocks which help in finding way to the top.

Walking by, we were able to see trails to neighbouring hills. Even though this was confusing as to whether we are heading in right direction or not, we didn't take any diversions and were moving straight towards the top. Once we went half the way, we could see farming fields in our view. A little ahead we also saw couple of villages there. This kept us wondering how the villagers manage to get essentials into the village. We were also confused about the direction to take towards the top of hill. At this point we bumped into a farmer who was tilling the field. We asked direction, and he waved his hand towards the way to the top.

Next up we were all getting tiresome, we decided to take some rest under shade of a huge rocks. This was pretty much like a small cave formation. The amazing part here was inside the cave it was pretty much cool, clean and there was fresh breeze as well. We took rest here for almost half an hour.

While we were taking rest a boy was listening and watching to all that we did. In fact he was hoping that we may need his help in going further. We spoke to him and he told that he would show us way to the top and two naturally formed caves on the way. From here our boy/guide was leading our way. After walking for a short while we came across a gate which was locked in our way, this kept us thinking why one would do this. When we asked our guide he suggested that it was to keep the cattle away from the park that was being developed over there. We wondered who at all would come here to this remote place in case the park was developed.

Next up we came across a well and two small puddles of water bodies with water in them may be due to recent rains. A short distance from here we started entering into the first cave. Soon we were are all using both limbs & hands to move. We were also squeezing ourself into the tight spaces between the rocks.

After we came out of the cave we decided to take rest for some time. While taking rest we started sipping on Slice that we had earlier purchased at Vijaya wada mess. We all knew at this point we had reached the top and that there is one more cave to see. For reaching the entrance to the second cave we had to do quite a trek, which had again tired most of us. We decided to take quite a long nap at the entrance of this cave. We all selected our independent places where we would rest, every one kept saying that their respective selected places were cooler than others till the last moment. Even though we had stopped for nap nobody slept, everyone was speaking about one or the other thing which kept every one awake. Under huge rocks it was actually soo clean with cool breeze that if at all we had more time we would have stayed here. The experience at this very place was one of the most memorable one, with no big trees in sight, we had to take respite from sun under these huge rock chunks. After a while we had our lunch breakfast, and entered into the cave. Inside the cave it was soo dark that even after staying there for quite some time in dark my eyes couldn't adjust to the low light. We took quite some time to move around the cave, as everyone kept saying I don't see any thing. Using mobile as torch we slowly came out of the cave.

Once we came out of the cave we could all see the way we took through the fields on to the top. Here we asked our guide if there is any way down without going back into the cave. He said that it's available and he would take us through. With this decision made we had to actually do quite an amazing adventure to come out of the bushes and cacti. Every one of us were cribbing about the bruises they got from thorns of bushes or cactus. The feeling was like inventing a new way out. After struggling for almost an hour we emerged out of the mini forest of bushes. We were now in the fields, with no water left. We thought of going to the village and buying some water. But we had our own doubts if at all water is available in the village or not. Our Guide suggested that it's indeed available and that there is road to these villages though which buses also travel. Later we decided not to head to village for water, we payed money to our guide and started treking down the hill.

The trek towards down hill was not that difficult and didn't take much time. We took only one break on our way and then reached the foot hill in comparatively short time.

Everyone was in need of water once we reached foot hill. We decided to go to Kamat and have something and then leave towards Bangalore. Before starting to return we had a slice of cucumber which was in push cart shop. At Kamat we had a very lite meal and drunk lots of cool water, it was such a bliss that we had more water than food. By 4o clock we are back at KR puram.
Even though it was basic/moderate level trekking, we enjoyed the trip and had loads of fun.

Browser vi !!
Today, I found a interesting find. At the office I was wondering if anybody has given a try to develop vi(unix text editor) in browser. Thinking that this thought is a rear idea, if not I could give an attempt. With a grin on my face, I opened up Google homepage and gave a couple of tries, and voilĂ , I got a hit and this page seems to be what I had in my mind.
http://gpl.internetconnection.net/vi/
I gave it a try. As soon as the page opened, the block cursor started blinking at the top left side of the browser page. First I tried search command and it seems to be working. With my eyebrow raised for more vi features, I gave a try for ":se nu". Sadly this command didn't work, instead I got a weird error. So I tried getting help as done in vanilla "vi" using ":help" command. This too didn't work. The command showed up a message, but nothing more than that. With the grin fading out on my face, i tried moving cursor up and down. Finding that this was working, I entered into insert mode and added some text here and there, things were fine here. Now for coming out of the insert mode I pressed "ESC" button. It didn't work. It seems browser is trapping the ESC button and not letting javascript to get the event.
Disappointed with this, I had to close the tab forcefully and exit.

Why am I sticking to chrome!!
I have been using Google Chrome since its first official release, I remember downloading it on the very first day I saw on the internet and other media. With all the hype that was created for this browser the first thing I did when I started using chrome is get to know how it is different from other browsers. Once I watched the youtube video about chrome, I'm clear about the know hows. Here are some of the reasons why I'm still using chrome.
First of all the UI, the way it is put up with out wasting any space on screen is what I liked the most. The elimination of the title bar and replacing that with the tab selection, is an wonderful idea.
The omni bar. omni bar is overloaded with multiple functions. Its used as both address bar as well as googling.
Google chrome resembles Mozilla Firefox, for example in Firefox if I have to view source of particular webpage one can use, view-source: syntax in the address bar. This kind of shortcuts are all supported by chrome as well. This made migration to chrome smooth. No extra time spent for learning some new funda.
I felt for a novice user, the developer tools provided by Chrome are better(in the sense of usability) than what we have in Firefox. I do know that Firefox has many extensions which are damn powerful, but I think in time Chrome will be catching up with Firefox. As of now for the kind of work I do I'm happy with what Chrome's inbuilt developer tools provide.
Incognito mode is another thing I love about Chrome, if I want to logon to my two accounts on gmail, I can logon using incognito mode.
Thats it for now.

Savanadurga hill trekking
It had been quite some time since I went out of the town. I had been thinking of going somewhere. I started googling for a place which can be visited over the weekend. I came across a adventure site which had mentioned couple of places which can be visited over the weekend. Based on distance and convenience I picked Savanadurga. I googled again on this place and tried to find out where exactly it was located. With this info in hand I thought of speeking to my colleagues at work. I only managed to talk to only CM(crib master Harish) who sits right opposite to my cubicle. CMH agreed for the trek without any questions. It was Saturday evening and in my mind I had planned to go next day morning itself. I wondered if my colleagues at work would agree for the trek with such a short notice. At this point of time another colleague, Chaitanya called me and told that Jaipal and Ajay are at his home, and that he wanted to invite me also to visit his home for a drink. I told him that I cannot do so, as I was not at home right now and that it would take time to reach home. By the time I reach home it would be 8:00 so I said I cannot and we disconnected the call. I managed to return to home earlier than 8:00pm and called CM, and confirmed if he was okay to visit Savanadurga, he said its fine with him. I now called CH and told him about visiting this place. I also asked him to get opinion from other two guys. Even though everyone didn't agree at the first call, with few calls between the colleagues, hurrey! we decided to go by CM's car. Me and CM decided to go to office by 7:30 and pick up the remaining three.
As decided we went to office by 7:30am but the other three guys didn't turn out on time, so we left 30 minutes late. CM was already at work, by cribbing about this. We stopped by a darshini in Magadi road and had our breakfasts. There was another round of cribbings and debate on way for the tea that we took. We started our journey towards magadi and by 9:00am we were about 15km away from magadi. We stopped for drinking tender coconut and took some rounds of photos. All this time our CM was busy cribbing AJ as always.

Before entering into magadi road we spotted a sign board mentioning the way to Savanadurga hill. We took the left turn and again after going about 20km we spotted another sign board to reach the hill. We reached foot hill by about 10. With help from locals we found out the place to park our vehicle and as soon as we stepped out of the car some boys in school uniform came running towards us. They asked us if we need any help in finding the way to the top of hill. I had read in one of blogs that it is better to take one of these boys so that we don't take the hard route to the top. So we decided to take the boys and bargained the price before only. Later we purchased water bottles as I knew that there would be no water available on top of the hill or on the way, in case if it is available it would be costly that its MRP value. We started taking some snaps before starting our trek at about 10:30.

With great enthu and the views surrounding us we started the trek. The trek started with a steep climb. After trekking for a short distance our CM suggested that he is not going any further and that he is returning back to car. We tried to convince him to come to atleast to the fort wall which was the first checkpoint. He didn't agree, and we started heading towards the first checkpoint.

Once we reached first checkpoint we enquired the boy about the distance yet to be covered. He suggested that we had come about 15%. We weren't that tired at this point of time and we could all see that we had started to sweat and it was the beginning.

At this point of time the boy told us that there is cave very near to the first checkpoint, but it was not in the way. We discussed among ourself and decided to check it out. We had to do some acrobats to reach it, but it was not actually a proper cave but there some shade from some big rocks and thats all.

We came out of it and continued our journey to the top. We started seeing more and more tiredness as we kept moving further. At times we had to crawl like using using all four limbs. Thinking that it is nothing compared to the view around us we kept moving.

We came across small water bodies collected in the rock cavities. We took some snaps here. At this point of time JA and CH started saying that they don't want come any further and told us also to do the same. We managed to convince them to move further. and started again.

Everyone including myself were completely tried and we were taking longer breaks at shorter distances. At last taking many breaks, talking and teasing each other we finally reached the top. It was very cool, it was all worth it. The view was amazing everyone took rest for about 20 minutes and all of us took snaps.
We started heading back. Going down was not as difficult as climbing up. Gravity was pulling us down we were trying to resist it. By the time we reached back to the foot hill it was about 1pm.
Everyone was so hungry that we could have two meals each :) But when we enquired, we didn't get any good hotels nearby so we thought of having at Mysore road. To our bad luck CM was our driver and he didn't let us have lunch anywhere we just had two glasses of cane juice and came back to Bangalore by 4:30pm.
All in all it was memorable trip and worth it.

Nokia 5800 review
Here is the review of Nokia 5800 the much hyped first touch phone from Nokia. I have been using this phone for about a year now.
The biggest disadvantage for me with this phone is unlike Iphone it's not multi touch screen. That means if you tap the screen with two fingers at two different locations of the screen it can't recognize both the taps simultaneously, it would make out only one tap. Due to this many of the functionalities like zooming and scrolling are not easy on Nokia 5800.
The built-in media player is not that good in organizing the media content. Even though the phone has options for creating new playlists, it is not that easy to create one. This is because once a new playlist is created the user has to pick songs from all songs list, which is usually a huge list. It is like searching for needle in an haystack. The media player also does not provide options to play songs by directory.
I somehow feel like the sensitivity of the mic in Nokia 5800 is very low, I find myself shouting so that person on the other end does not complain of hearing me.
This is all I have right now. I will keep the issues updated from time to time. Until then have a great time and by the way, I wish you all a happy new year 2010
